The Project

Following the gorgeous 62' Maggie B for Franck Blair( http://schoonermaggieb.net/ ) designed by Nigel Irens( http://www.nigelirens.com/FRAMEcruising.htm ) Look at some picture below !!
I decide to built a smallest version of this " fusion schooner",
I ask Nigel to reduce at 50' long the same desing, on this first version it will be only one large owner cabin, but other accomodation can be arranged.
For all engineering, It's my friend Simon Jupe involved, he do all structural details and calculations, he his a real professional naval architect ( and seasoned sailor) you can find this very competent and pragmatic naval architect at : Email : simon@hys-yachts.com Web. : http://www.hys-yachts.com/
for the carbon masts, it's the hight tech composite specialist Julian Smith who are in charge... you can find him at : http://www.appliedstructuralanalysis.com/

For many reason, I decide to built this boat in Philippines, where i find skilled boat builder, at reasonable cost, abundant and diverse wood specie, and great location( http://www.boatshop.com.ph/about/ )

Special thanks to Tim Wright an Frank Blair for right of use the beautifull pictures of the MaggieB look also at http://www.photoaction.com/.

Name

To give a name for a boat is not always easy.. I need to see her/him almost completed before to do the right choice...

the name for this schooner will be " GLAZ"

word from my breton language (the Glazik country !) used for a special color and feeling, between the green and the blue, when you can't see difference between sea and sky, between land and sea, also used for some human feeling.....

How much ?

The basic cost for the 62' Maggie B was around 2 millions Canadian dollars 3 year ago...( but it's much bigger boat), the same shipyard said around 750.000 usd for a 50 ft...
our challenge is to produce a boat ready to sail from here for a fraction of this cost, with acceptable standard quality.
the carbon rigging is a important part of the final cost but also the base of this concept !
I try to find someone interrested to built a duplicate during the construction, we will have reduced both cost to re-use molds/study/templates/jig/foundry tools.worker training and so.. but this not happen, so the Glaz will remain a one-off !
equipment and molds still in Carmen , we can discuss If someone want to built a second unit !

Let me introduce myself !

My Name is Bertrand d'Alencon, french citizen, 50 year old, Ocean and Boat passionated !
To submarize my experience, after few year sailing from France to Caraibe, via Canada and newfoundland, i start to built boat and maritime project in 1983 until now... from fishing boat, french navy units to offshore gas platform project...
After now almost 10 year working and sailing in asia, I found my own boat was to big for me to be shorthandle! a heavy 74' gaff rig schooner !! ( http://www.schoonercortom.blogspot.com ) I sell her and start this new project..
go sailing now..

Hi,  guys,  we stay since 4 years in madagacar, built home and so , see ”andafondro project  ”  on google..

I painfully decide to sell the Glaz.. no real project to sail around the worl, and this boat have been built for ...succesfully... so if someone do offer, project , or what ever serious, just contact me ...bertrand .dalencon@gmail.com

The boar is safe on mooring in front off our home, small job servicing to do to go around the world ...
